Remember our new mission project - - feeding 30 hungry children from Dixieland Elementary on weekends healthy snack foods throughout this upcoming school year. This is a big undertaking but a rewarding one. Wouldn't you like to be a part of this important new mission? If you're interested, we need: PACKERS to pack the backpacks on Thursdays; DROP-OFF at Dixieland on Friday mornings; PICK-UP from Dixieland on Monday mornings; SHOPPERS to get the food (we can buy in bulk if we find a good price); packages of 15 are appreciated; and ORGANIZERS to prepare sign-up sheets, send e-mail reminders, and circulate information. If you’re willing to help, please e-mail or call the office with your interest. God is using College Heights UMC to help kids - and it feels great!

Hope Fellowship Class will begin a new study next Sunday of two of the most important books of the New Testament -- 1 and 2 Corinthians --
because they deal with spiritual issues and personal concerns that are
still very current in our time. This study is part of the new Immersion
Bible Studies series published by our own Abingdon Press. Please join
us at 9:00 a.m. in Success House.
CROP Walk! We are now signing up walkers and supporters.
Look for the Crop Walk table to sign up as a walker. And those
who are not able to walk should look for the walkers to support.
Crop Walk will be held around Lake Hollingsworth starting at First
Presbyterian Church at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 26. Walk-
ers: please bring a can of food to the registration table that day.
Salty Service Opportunity - CHUMC is participating with other local
churches in the Justice For Our Neighbors project. JFON provides
free, professional legal services to immigrants in monthly clinics. This
UMCOR program connects a national network of church-based, volun-
teer-led immigration clinics to asylum seekers and immigrants who need
a helping hand to navigate the maze of rules and laws that affect their
lives in the United States. You can find more information about JFON at
http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/work/immigration/jfon/. The next local
clinic will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 3:00 - 8:00
p.m. on February 27. CHUMC will be providing light supper refresh-
ments, snacks, and drinks for the adults and children attending the clinic.
If you are willing to donate refreshments for this event, please contact
Sheila Dyer at sdyer5@aol.com or 688-5796. Refreshments should be
brought to CHUMC by noon on Monday, February 27.
Are you interested in learning more about the Bible and becoming stronger in your faith? We are looking for people interested in participating in the Bible study, Disciple: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study. This is a program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders. It gives the Old and New Testaments equal time, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. Disciple draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participant, and dynamic group discussion to aid understanding of the Bible. The themes, major persons, events, and topics will set the sequence of the biblical story in the minds of participants, following the
Most weeks, sanctuary flower arrangements are artificial. These beautiful displays are the work of Dennis Wood who has done such a wonderful job that many do not realize these are not live arrangements. Since there are not many sponsors for sanctuary flowers, the cost was cutting into our ministry budgets. The Worship Committee, Finance Committee, and Church Council decided that using artificial flower arrangements is a great way to cut costs so that we may be good stewards of the monies that are given for ministry. Live flowers in honor of or in memory of a loved one remains an option because we can order as needed. If you are interested in dedicating sanctuary flowers, call the church office to schedule your request. The cost is $49.00 for the two arrangements. When you make payment, please note that it is for sanctuary flowers.
The Pastor's Discretionary Fund is used to help persons who are in immediate need. These needs can range from bus fare and food to help with paying a medical or electric bill. Your generosity in giving to this fund is always appreciated. Although monies can be designated and given to this fund at any time, the easiest way to support this ministry is to leave money on the chancel rail during Holy Communion. All monies left on the rail are designated for this fund. We thank you for your support of this and all ministries of College Heights UMC.
The Mission Ministry Team is sponsoring food collection for Talbot House. There is a basket in the narthex for deposit of staple food items, and you may bring items at any time. A volunteer will deliver collected items on a monthly basis. Please help us support Talbot House in this manner all year.
UPDATE ON THE BACKPACK SNACK MINISTRY (BPSM): At the beginning of the school year, we began providing nutritional snacks for the weekend to 15 students at Dixieland Elementary; we are now providing for 25! This would not be possible were it not for all the volunteers who are shopping, planning “menus,” packing the backpacks, delivering and picking up backpacks, and supporting the program financially. Currently, all food items are being donated by church members and a local food bank (special thanks to Scott Johnson for arranging this!). We are in the process of qualifying to purchase food items at a great discount through the Agape Food Bank; however, this authorization has not yet been received. Until it is, there are certain items that are a continuing need: Boxes of juice (we try to include 2 for each child, which is 50 boxes of juice each week!) Packaged fruit items, such as snack size raisin boxes, fruit cups, applesauce cups, fruit snacks Crackers of various kinds, such as the Ritz individual cracker packs, cheese and peanut butter cracker packs or other “sandwich” cracker packs, graham cracker snack packs, or boxes of graham crackers Pudding cups At this time, we have plenty of granola bars! As the procurement situation changes, information will be placed in the bulletin and The Messenger for any changes in the items we need to “fill in the gaps.” Again, thanks to all who are helping support this project. - - Nancy Michel
Nursery/Children’s Church/Youth Group
It is wonderful that more children have been attending Children’s Church. But, we need your help to make our young people’s programs beneficial to children of all ages.
UMCOR needs your help! southern If you need a ride to the Sunday 10:30 a.m. worship, call the office Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and we will TRY to find someone to give you a ride. Though we presently do not have anyone we regularly drive, we still need to have drivers on stand-by if the need arises. Please call the office to volunteer for this ministry.
